With the launch of two new depots, one in Welham Green near Hatfield and the other in Central, London, Our client is much more than just another Builders Supplies Shed, this is about being a Builders Merchants of the future.
As one of the leading 'one stop' independent distributors of drywall, insulation, and partition systems in the UK, our client work closely with all the major manufacturers in the drywall sector which means that we can not only supply product quickly and at exceptionally good prices, but it also means that we have the ability to provide sound advice that demonstrates a much broader understanding of the merchants and their products than that of general suppliers.
Their expertise and knowledge in supplying major schemes and projects, means that their customers can also use them as a resource, not just to supply, but to help them also win business.
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Operations Director will support the Managing Director in developing and delivering the next phase of the company's strategy and be responsible or effective implementation of all operational aspects of this strategy together with the management of the entire operational and supply chain functions.
Main Purpose of Job
Management of the warehouse and yard operations at the Welham site.
Working with the various managers at the sites to implement strategies to improve the operations and develop further the people and the business
Areas of responsibility:
*Managing process and operational excellence

*Increasing productivity across the business, from supplier through to warehouse, transport through to fulfilment and the full customer experience cycle
*Managing and developing a team that can operate across the business, developing their skills to meet both company and personal goals
*Leadership and Business Management - leading from the front with best practice and strong business acumen.
*Ensuring that financial control systems are managed effectively and support the overall objectives of the business.
*Accurate and timely Reporting
Skills and Ability
*Degree qualified or equivalent
*Be driven by the ability to drive efficiencies and improvements in supply chain
*Highly numerate and data orientated
*A strong leader with a passion for developing people
*Commercially astute with a real understanding of how to drive costs without compromising quality
*Comfortable with dealing with senior stakeholders
*Ability to identify opportunities to apply new business techniques and develop growth
*Ability to lead cross functional teams and manage functions and people without direct authority.
*The ability to plan, prioritise and organise own workload.
Experience
*Experience in establishing or developing a distribution business is a key advantage
*Operation management/directorship experience in a pressurised environment
*Knowledge and a proven record of accomplishment of delivery of objectives against key performance indicators (KPIs)
*Continued exposure to and understanding of process improvement and lean management
*Solid financial management and with responsibility for budgets
*Experience of leading and working with senior managers as well as operational staff in office, warehouse, and yard environments.
*Able to deliver change and successfully motivating teams.
*A strong communicator effective both verbally and in writing at Director Level.
*Evidence of continued professional and personal development.
