JOB TITLE: COMMERCIAL MANAGER - TIMBER PRODUCTS
ACCOUNTABLE TO: COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR
RESPONSIBLE FOR: NONE (but this may change)
SALARY:£50K with £6K Car Allowance
HOURS 9-5.30PM (with flexibility required for supplier and member visits)

Underpinned by a progressive business strategy that promoted supplier deals and develops membership volumes and commitment, the next phase of the groups' development will see turnover triple in the next three years. Their business model is fully equipped to outperform the market and take the membership to new levels of success.
Timber Products forms an integral part of our client's current success and future growth plans. Competition remains fierce for our members and managing their needs successfully will enable our client to deliver true competitive advantage via our negotiated supplier deals. As such, we are looking to recruit a Commercial Manager to build on their success and drive this category successfully forward. The remit is to actively improve the supply process from range selection and supplier development to supporting customer sales and customer engagement.
OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
The Commercial Manager is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the product cycle are
efficiently managed and implemented across the supply chain, from supplier negotiation and
category management/development, through to marketing and promotional initiatives and
developing a platform to drive membership volumes and commitment.
There are two main areas of focus in this role: The first to gather and prioritise membership
requirements and opportunities, defining a strategy and vision for Timber Products, and working
closely with preferred suppliers to ensure our offering is both competitive and compelling.
Secondly, to ensure that all aspects of product life cycle are performance managed through the
membership, from initial specification and selection, data and price integrity, to supplier
support, promotional marketing and on-going sales support in order to maximise membership
volumes.
This is a newly defined role created specifically to achieve greater membership opportunity and
commitment, and to engage fully with our supply base to ensure our client deliver real competitive
advantage to their membership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Commercial Manager - Timber Products will be accountable to the Commercial Director
although there will be a requirement for them work closely with other team members and senior
managers. The key responsibilities of the role will be to:
*Define with the Commercial Director and execute commercial strategies in Timber, Sheets and
Timber Landscaping harnessing the IBC organisation to ensure we deliver success for suppliers and commitment from members
*Support membership buy in and support they ability to compete in their local markets
*Work closely within supplies to ensure we deliver continuous improvements on behalf of our members
*Work closely with the Membership Executive to ensure the commercial offer is 'fit for purpose'
*Conduct category reviews on a regular basis with the membership supported by data
*interrogation that maximises buy-in by members and supports the overall volume aspirations of the group and our suppliers
*Maintain product data and pricing integrity, including pricing and data accuracy for members
*Be an expert on our Forest Product suppliers, their competition and the market place they operate in
*Be an expert on our members, their competition and their ongoing requirements
PERSON SPECIFICATION
*Strong background in Timber & Forest Products and knowledge of how the independent merchant sector operates are all prerequisites
*Be commercially astute and understand the implications and opportunities presented by commercial data and have excellent Microsoft Office application skills including Excel
*Be passionate and enthusiastic - able to support growth and develop new initiatives with energy and determination
*Confident in managing external stakeholders at both ends of the supply chain and the ability to influence where appropriate
*Be capable of managing and analysing large amounts of raw data, information and market trends and be able to make decisions and develop new strategies
*The ability to problem solve, operate under pressure and identify unique solutions
*Good IT knowledge relating to Windows based applications and reporting software
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills
*The desire to succeed
