Person Specification
Housing Advice Officer
Experience required:
*Experience of providing a customer driven front line service within a Local Authority, Registered Provider or a similar public or private organisation.
*Experience of multi-agency working and working in a multi-disciplinary environment.
*Experience of working in an investigative role and providing services to a diverse client group.
*Experience of giving accurate and relevant information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
*A comprehensive knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 VI &VII as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002 and the obligations of the Local Authority.
*Working knowledge of how to apply for housing benefit, welfare benefits and how to use this to maximise income and understand the importance of financial inclusion.
*Knowledge of ICT database packages.
*Good knowledge and understanding of issues affecting the private rented sector.
*Good understanding of how to apply housing benefits, welfare benefits and debt counselling in an advisory capacity.
*Knowledge of safeguarding processes and experience of working with Domestic Abuse cases.
Detailed knowledge of current legislation including case law updates and best practice relating to:

Skills & Ability:
*Ability to provide a customer focused service Customer care skills.
*Ability to work effectively on own initiative and to targets in a stressful environment by conducting investigative interviews effectively and empathically.
*Ability to communicate effectively all information to a differing range of people, in writing, verbally and face to face.
*Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage a busy workload.
*Ability to deal with a variety of clients with specific needs and risk assess situations to ensure safety for the customer, public and staff.
*Ability to diffuse potentially difficult situations whilst advising the applicant of their options in a clear and understandable way
*Ability to understand, assess and apply complex legislation which prevents homelessness and ensuring services are delivered within budget.
*Ability to up to date working knowledge of new legislation and case law.
*Full driving licence and use of a vehicle.
